The Green Gold

The Green Gold

I chose biodiesel production as an alternative energy source. The biodiesel was produced from M. oleifera (MO) seeds and co-culture of acetyl-coA carboxylase (ACCase) transformed R. glutinis with C. vulgaris. Directed evolution was applied by adding sethoxydim, an ACCase inhibitor, to obtain high lipid productive co-culture via natural selection. The effect of nitrogen depletion on the co-culture lipid productivity was assessed for enhanced biodiesel production. Residual MO biomass was mixed with S. fusiforme powder to test its wastewater treatment ability on turbidity; bacterial load; and Cd, Cu, Fe, Hg, Pb removal. The water was then treated by co-immobilized C. vulgaris and A. brasilense, and immobilized B. subtilis with B. licheniformis.
